After years of military service, Darron has returned home to his young family. As a veteran, he has thrived on structure, teamwork, and having a mission. But civilian life is a different kind of challenge. The routines are gone, the camaraderie is missing, and the mission isn’t always clear. 

Darron wants to be the best husband and father he can be, but he’s searching for a way to channel his skills and find meaning. He has leadership skills and an entrepreneurial drive, so he starts his own business. At first, the ideas are flowing and he gets a little traction. 

But then reality hits. 

He can’t get over the hump. 

He’s really good at what he’s trying to do, but there are so many things to do just making the business function and trying to make sales that he can hardly focus on the things that make money. 

In the military, he had built-in support systems and a suite of tools and talented people to help him get things done regardless of the task. Despite the bureaucratic hurdles, he drove a lot of innovative initiatives both inside the military and in the communities where he was deployed. 

While this seems very much the same, it’s really very different. 

Transitioning from military life to family life isn’t as simple as hanging up a uniform. Darron faces sleepless nights, not from danger, but from worry—about providing for his family, connecting with his kids, and finding work that matters. 

Darron faces the frustration of trying to build something that should work while getting little or no support from banks and industry organizations. Why? Because they usually won’t help until you don’t need it. 

There is so much to do and everyone with a service he needs wants to extract a nickel, a dime, a quarter… 

…and before he knows it, he’s completely broke.
